Empowering Animal Advocates in Japan at HIKARI SHOKUDO
AAA Japanese team members joined forces for a World Vegan Day event at HIKARI SHOKUDO, a vegan restaurant located in Tochigi, Japan.
The event took place on November 1–2, offering a wide range of free activities, including a movie awards party, a vegan market, live music, and a workshop hosted by Elly Nakajima (AAA Co-Founder and Director) and Kaho Nishibu (AAA Program and Research Coordinator).
The one-and-a-half-hour workshop led by Elly and Kaho was titled “動物正義ムーブメント 自分の居場所を見つけよう,” which translates to How to Find Your Place in the Animal Justice Movement. Elly and Kaho provided participants with a basic overview of the animal justice movement, exploring the various roles and approaches that contribute to creating change for animals. At the end of the workshop, participants engaged in interactive activities to reflect on how they believe change can be achieved.
The workshop aimed to encourage vegans, animal advocates, and those curious about the vegan lifestyle to find their place in the movement and think of concrete ways to contribute. It received positive feedback from participants, who said that the workshop helped them identify their roles, develop step-by-step plans for creating change, and inspired new ideas for communicating animal justice issues.
The AAA Japan team was complete with the participation of our Japan Coordinator, Yuki Takashi, who joined the session via Zoom to introduce attendees to the Japan Fellowship and invite them to join his exciting mission to reform school lunches across the country!
