Code of Conduct
We expect all participants (AAA staff, attendees, and speakers) to abide by this Code of Conduct in all events–online and in-person–as well as in all one-on-one communications.
The following behaviours are expected and requested of all AAA members, speakers, and attendees:
Be inclusive towards any gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, faith, caste and race, etc.
Engage in nonviolent communication. "Compassion for the individuals, anger at the system."
Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech.
Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants. Alert AAA staff if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct.
Be open to others' feedback when they express discomfort or hurt over your behaviour.
Respect the privacy and confidentiality needs of other members or attendees.
The following behaviours are unacceptable both online and offline including on social media accounts.
Violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person.
Speciesist, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, ageist, or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.
Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information ("doxing").
Personal attacks, including those related to species, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability, and including both online and offline insults.
Hacking, impersonation, or any other form of virtual harassment.
Inappropriate photography or recording.
Inappropriate physical contact, including any non-consensual physical contact (no matter how seemingly benign).
Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes sexualised comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, unwelcome sexual advances, invasion of personal space, and any other behaviour that makes another member/attendee sexually uncomfortable.
Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following (online or in-person).
Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour.
Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.
Dishonesty or deception to manipulate other attendees/members.
Consequences of Unacceptable Behaviour
Unacceptable behaviour from anyone will not be tolerated.
If an attendee/staff/speaker engages in unacceptable behaviour, the AAA organisers reserve the right to take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from AAA events without warning.
In serious cases, we may need to take legal interventions.
Reporting Guidelines
If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behaviour, or have any other concerns, please notify an organiser as soon as possible and/or email info@animalallianceasia.org. Immediate action will be taken, ranging from constructive criticism to immediate indefinite removal. Reports are held confidential until otherwise authorised by reporting parties.
