Taiwan’s first university diet-change fellowship kicking off online!

On the 12th of August, 13 diet-change advocates from different Taiwanese universities gathered online for the first time, getting ready to learn about the health and nutrition of a plant-based diet. This online session is the first course of ‘優植計畫,我挺你!(Rooting for You!)’  - a first university diet change fellowship in Taiwan.

Introducing Joyce Chen, Executive Director of Taiwan Vegetarian Nutrition Society

We were joined by the speaker, Joyce Chen. She’s a vegan nutritionist and the Executive Director of our fellowship collaborator, Taiwan Vegetarian Nutrition Society.

During the session, we learned about the difference between ‘素(sù)- a vegetarian/vegan diet based on the buddhist religion’ and plant-based diet, common misconceptions on protein intake, what is complete protein, B12, iron, vitamin D, and what do they do to our bodies.

At the end of the session, we opened the floor for an engaging Q&A and discussion regarding vegan diet nutrition and outreach communication. We wrapped up the session by contemplating on the multi-angle approach we can apply in our future advocacy to create collective liberation through diet-change!
