Vegan Community Potluck in Indonesia

Strengthening Communities through Vegan Potlucks 🍽️ 🌱

What brings people together? Is it food? Would you be interested in attending a vegan potluck in your area? What does community mean to you, and what vegan challenges have you joined?

Many animal advocates work for international organisations, and I personally feel disconnected from our local community and advocates sometimes. How can we then grow our movement? This question has been on my mind for years.

I spent a few moments talking with other advocates and found that we needed more in-depth discussions and casual meetings to strengthen our community and achieve animal liberation.

We went together to one of Jakarta's vegan local businesses, Kommunity Eats, to create a safe space for learning. This first potluck was open to vegans, vegan-curious people, AAA Academy Alumni, AAA Indonesian Volunteers, AAA Forum members, and independent activists. We needed more people to help spread the cause, influence each other, and share tips and tricks. With the help of vegan business owners, advocates, volunteers, and restaurant staff, we gathered on Sunday, February 4, 2024. With over 20 people in attendance, we had insightful discussions full of positive energy!

Local dishes were fabulous and showcased how Indonesian food can be versatile and easy to veganize. From Urap, Tahu Sumedang, Nasi Jeruk, Siomay, Es Teh Telang, Kerupuk, Nasi Goreng, to other international foods such as gyoza, pasta, pizza, Turkish rice, and Japanese curry, everyone was satisfied 😋💕
