PH fellowship advisor co-organizes first-ever plant-based heritage flora festival

Gulay Pa More was a pro-farmer, pro-indigenous plant-based festival held in May, attended by about 3,000 Filipinos who wanted to rediscover and celebrate their roots as an agricultural people.

It was the biggest celebration of heritage flora. About 60 vendors — including art/ wellness/ advocacy groups, small businesses, and farmers — came together to showcase seasonal produce.

This milestone event was co-organized by Zof Leal, a 2023 academy graduate and 2024 fellowship advisor of AAA Philippines. Emphasizing the importance of working collectively, Zof said, “Being in solidarity with farmers and Indigenous Peoples is the only way for the Filipino vegan movement to thrive. . . After all, our goal is the same - land for those who till, self-determination and total liberation.”

Gulay Pa More is proof that Filipino culture is rich in plant-based legacy, kept alive by farmers and indigenous communities.
